Experience Greater Design Freedom With Conductive Metal Clad Fibers
Syscom Advanced Materials is focused on creating Metal Clad Fibers for solutions to your toughest engineering challenges. Our AmberStrand® and Liberator® Conductive Fibers offer a combination of strength, flexibility, weight reduction, chemical and cut resistance, and more.
What are Metal Clad Fibers?
Fibers come in many different forms and are used in applications that range from clothing yarn to aerospace wiring. Fibers can be derived from metals or plastics and chosen based on customers’ electrical and mechanical needs.
Syscom takes these synthetic, metallic fibers and manufactures them into extremely conductive materials by applying, or “cladding”, various metal coatings. These Metal Clad Fibers have the flexibility and feel of polymer fibers paired with the conductivity of copper wire. Metallic fibers achieve a boost in this conductivity as well as in strength.
Redefining Conductive Fibers
Metal Clad Fibers, such as AmberStrand® and Liberator®, redefine the concepts of traditional metal wire. These metal clad fibers are polymers, with each individual polymer exhibiting unique properties. Though they inherently have different qualities, both polymers similarly display textile-like movements and feel. This is what separates their physical characteristics from a commonly known conductive material, such as copper.
The core polymer is ‘yarn-like’ while still being supremely strong and durable. The ‘metal clad’ outer layer gives these incredibly strong yarns their enhanced conductivity. Altogether, they are a strong, conductive fiber with the feel, and flexibility, of traditional yarn.
